{About: Me.}

Hmm, the bio page. What to say? What to write?

How about if I use the rudimentary, elementary school assignment that follows the 5 Ws guidelines?

Okay, here we go:

WHO: Leslie. Born and raised in Los Angeles, I have always been fiercely proud of being a native of SoCal, and I will always consider myself a westside girl. A teacher by profession, I am also a proud mother of two (soon-to-be-three) beautiful children, and I’m also a happy wife to a loving, supportive, (and HANDSOME) husband.

WHAT: Once upon a time I aspired to be an art student, but my path twisted and turned, and I became an English major. In college I read all the literary Masters (Thoreau, Shakespeare, Chaucer etc.,), but I became enthralled with the newer voices of female writers like: Sandra Cisneros (my ALLTIME fave), Maxine Hong Kingston, Amy Tan, Maya Angelou, and Toni Morrison.

Currently I am dabbling in the wonderful world of digital illustration (most of my illustrations are created using Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop). I’m a newbie at these programs, but I find much joy doodling and creating in my spare time.

After the birth of my first child, I created my commercial site, The Paper Princess to sell my creative wares. As a mom, I became overwhelmed with the number of childrens’ birthday parties. As a way to save money on these ridiculously expensive parties, I started to create some of my gifts. The result: The Paper Princess.

I still find myself tempted to return to the world of art. Perhaps in a way my creativity still lives, shadowed in the every day details of my life. I still find it in the vibrancy of a color that I paint or in the texture of a pattern that I use. Othertimes it lurks in the beauty of an illustration I create or in the ribs of a sweater that I knit.

WHERE: In a random, anonymous suburb of Los Angeles – where the sunny skies and smoggy air mingle.

WHEN: I started this here blog fall of 2003. I created this site to compliment my commercial site, The Paper Princess.

WHY: I love to talk about myself…..JUST KIDDING! Originally I wanted my friends and family to stay abreast of my crazy on-goings. I enjoy posting about my wild bambinos – this online journal chronicles the shenanigans of my two little ones.

Since starting this blog, I’ve been blessed with many cyber friends who have given me all the crafty support and encouragement that was so lacking in my real, every day life. Utter the words knit purl knit purl or .gif or God forbid (!) finger weight….and my real life friends’ heads would spin. So. To avoid sacrificing our friendship, I found a creative outlet through this site!
